Job Description

Lotus Seattle in Seattle, Washington is looking for a full time Editor to work under the supervision of the Program Director and oversee a drive-time news broadcast by prioritizing stories for air, writing and producing content, covering breaking news, delivering breaking news on-air, assigning reporters and scheduling interviews with newsmakers. Above all else, we’re looking for the person who is capable of producing our news coverage during a crucial daypart who understands the importance of a positive team dynamic in the Pacific Northwest’s only all-news radio newsroom.

The Editor/Producer may also be assigned occasional anchoring and be asked to appear in public on behalf of the station.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Stay on top of local and national news via multiple sources, especially developing stories.
  • Select and rewrite stories for air.
  • Edit all scripts for accuracy, timeliness, and proper usage.
  • Arrange newscasts, billboards, and other on-air content.
  • Present content live on-air in an authoritative and conversational manner that connects with local listeners.
  • Create unique, ear-opening content delivered creatively to boost audience ratings.
  • Oversee Social Media content during shift and ensures a presence on select platforms by creating and assigning content.
  • Be familiar with or capable of quickly learning NewsBoss & Adobe Audition news production software, and other news production software as well as automation systems as needed to ensure operation of radio broadcasts.
  • Knowledge of and ability to operate various broadcast software and broadcast equipment, inclusive of technical specifications of various studio environments.
  • Generate content for all platforms including broadcast, online and social media.
  • Must be available to work nights, weekends, and breaking news at all hours.
  • Develop story ideas, perform research, interview people, write, and present story ideas.

Required Skills and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in communications or related field preferred. All candidates must have a minimum of 5 years’ experience in a radio or television newsroom.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communications skills.
  • Excellent live reporting skills.
  • Strong ability to interact professionally and build relationships and sources.
  • Strong research skills, including the ability to navigate online search engines.
  • Excellent understanding of Associated Press style book, and ability to adapt easily to our newsroom’s writing standards and practices

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements:

Office environment, some repetitive motion required. May require some travel to station events, valid drivers’ license is required with safe driving record.

Compensation:

  • $65-75K, based upon experience
