LOCAL PAY: $38/hr\n\nFacility size: 450-bed facility \nScrub Requirement: pending\nParking: onsite\nPay Cycle: Sunday-Saturday\nEMR: Iris/Cerner\nCase Types:\nIndividuals with behavioral issues\nIntellectual Disabilities\nUnits with medically fragile individuals or areas with a higher acuity, more skilled nursing.\nCompletely non-verbal, non-mobile individuals, some high functioning, most with intellectual disabilities, feeding tubes, etc. (wide range of individuals)\nRESPONSIBILITIES:\n\nProvide care for patients – manage medication administration and treatments; provide medication education and complete documentation.\nPerform computer data entry – Receive full training.\nComply with facility Standard Operating Procedures to meet standards for accrediting agencies; specifically, ICF-IDD Regulations, DSSLC Policy and Directives and HHSC Standards, Rules and Directives.\nDESCRIPTION: The Licensed Vocational Nurse at Denton State Supported Living Center performs advanced vocational nursing work. Provides for the care, treatment, and general welfare of individuals residing at the State Supported Living Center who have intellectual disabilities, complex medical, mental health and/or behavioral health issues.\n\nOrientation Dates: 2/3\nOrientation is 6 weeks, lasts for 2 weeks, then 2 weeks of nursing training, followed by 2 weeks with a preceptor.\nOrientation is held every 2 weeks, on the 1st business day and 16th business day of the month from 8:00 am-5:00 pm.\n6-month contract minimum\nThey are divided up by care needs and the nurse will be assigned to a unit based on their skill set but could still float to others\nShifts are alternating to meet staffing needs.\nAble to start any day during the week, given 5 days before start date for processing all pre-employment requirements.\nLength: 26 weeks \nHours per week: 40 hours\n6:00 am-2:00 pm\nShift: Days\n5 x 8's\nFloating Requirements: Agency nurses are generally pulled first if there’s a need to pull to another unit. Initially, nurses are oriented to multiple assignments before settling in where there’s the biggest need.\nPatient Ratios: They try to keep it low, 9-10 patients. Higher functioning patients might be a little higher and then lower functioning will be less than that. In the infirmary they have 15 patients total with 3-4 RNs and a charge nurse. Agency will be the first to float. Overnight does change a little bit. Orientation is 2 weeks of education and 2 weeks of on the job training to prepare them.\nWeekends: every other weekend\nRTO: None preferred\nCerts: AHA BLS\nLicenses: Active Texas LPN/LVN Licensure\nExperience Required:\nMinimum of 2 years of experience as the licensed professional they are applying for. For example, an LVN who has just completed RN school must have 2+ years of experience as an RN when applying for that sort of position.\n1 year experience in a facility setting for Individuals with Intellectual Disabilities, and units with medically fragile individuals or areas with a higher understanding, more skilled nursing\nExperience with a larger med pass \nNurses with experience in Nursing Homes do better here.\nHome Health, Clinic, and Hospice experience does not prepare a nurse for medication administration like that.\nAgency nurses float first. Please explain expectations.\nInitially nurses are oriented to multiple assignments before settling in where there’s the biggest need.\nIf that pull comes months later, they wouldn’t get more orientation at that time. Staff are expected to help identify individuals.\nNeed to have clear written and verbal communication skills, they have to communicate with peers, DSPs, PCPs, and also the individuals who live here.\nMust possess valid LVN license.\nMust comply with HHSC immunization requirements.\nMust submit to HHSC required drug test.\nMust submit to HHSC required fingerprinting.\nMust complete facility and HHSC required training.
