Senior Corporate Counsel (Real Estate Development/Construction): Family-owned and operated real estate development company based in St. Louis, MO seeks an experienced real estate and/or construction law attorney to join its established in-house legal department. Duties: Reviews various agreements and legal documents including contracts, leases, licenses, purchase and sale agreements, title/survey and other due diligence materials, easements, insurance provisions, legal pleadings, loan agreements, etc. Prepares contracts, leases, amendments, broker agreements, termination agreements, license agreements, easements, construction contracts, lien releases/settlement agreements, service agreements, legal correspondence, contract summaries, lease summaries and other legal reports. Represents and advises the company on various commercial real estate issues that arise throughout the acquisition, development and construction processes. Researches and analyzes laws and regulations necessary to complete their work. Participates in legal department meetings and initiatives such as template development and makes determinations on how to respond to legal issues or proposed changes in laws and regulations. Provides legal advice to an organization on both routine and non-routine legal issues and works closely with other departments to foresee and protect company against legal risk. Typically reports to the Associate General Counsel, Senior Associate General Counsel or to the General Counsel. May lead and direct the work of Staff Attorneys, paralegals and support staff. A specialist that serves as the primary legal contact for the organization in one or more functional areas and works on complex aspects of a project within that functional area. Qualified candidates should have prior legal experience working on a variety of real estate development and/or construction projects in either an in-house legal department or law firm. Work is generally performed independently, but they may collaborate with their supervisor or consult with outside counsel on high level legal issues and complex aspects of a project unless knowledge in a particular area has been achieved. Requires a Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law school and admittance to a state bar. Typically requires 6+ years of related experience.
