The Department of Water Resources’ (DWR) Northern Region Office is looking for a Senior Environmental Scientist (Specialist) to join an award-winning team in the fight against climate change to help the state achieve its climate resilience goals. As a DWR Regional Climate Change Specialist (RCCS), your responsibilities will include analyzing and evaluating climate change impacts to the State’s water sector, developing adaptation strategies, managing, and reporting climate data, in coordination with other DWR programs. You will design and implement statewide and regional climate change adaptation and mitigation programs, and provide presentations, outreach, education, and technical assistance on climate change and water resources.

This position requires possession of a valid California Driver's License and may require work outside of typical work schedule; attend weekend or evening meetings; conduct field work; travel for out of town for meetings, conferences, and fieldwork for up to several consecutive days in remote locations, including overnight stays.

Demonstrated knowledge of climate change and its impacts on the water sector, including the Upper Feather River Watershed and elsewhere in Northern Region. Knowledge of California Climate Change Adaption Strategy; California’s Water Supply Strategy: Adapting to a Hotter, Drier Future; the Department’s Climate Action Plan and California Water Plan; the Sustainable Groundwater Management Act (SGMA) and Integrated Regional Water Management (IRWM). Demonstrated ability to collect, analyze, and write preliminary summaries of observational data sets, and technical and modeling studies, such as the data found and summarized in the annual DWR Hydroclimate Report. Demonstrated ability to assist in outreach activities to communicate climate change concepts to water sector stakeholders and Tribes.
