Job Summary:

UW Veterinary Care (UWVC) is seeking a skilled Nuclear Medicine Technologist of PET (Positron Emission Tomography)/CT imaging to assist in essential patient procedures. Operate and maintain PET/CT and Nuclear Medicine equipment. Maintain and operate cameras that detect and map radioactive drugs in a patient's body to create diagnostic images. Order, prepare, administer, and dispose of radiopharmaceuticals according to established protocols. Operate general stationary and portable x-ray equipment with additional training. Assist with procedures including patient care, equipment settings, and equipment troubleshooting. Perform cross sectional imaging such as CT and/or MRI. Responsibilities:
Provides technical expertise in a research, development, or scientific program. Designs, modifies, and adapts equipment to create unique systems in support of research, development, or instruction, involving, but not limited to, the disciplines of electronics, mechanical/thermal systems, optics, and/or computers.
25% Provides technical expertise to staff, researchers, clients, and students in the installation and use of equipment and instruments, exercising discretion and independent judgment to meet unit goals
20% Develops, integrates, tests, and modifies sophisticated scientific equipment to support research/clinical initiatives and unit directives
10% Designs, plans, and performs preventative and reactive maintenance on equipment to ensure optimal and safe operation
10% Answers questions and provides technical information regarding instrumentation to staff, researchers, clients, and students
5% Assists with the preparation of grant proposals and applicable documentation
10% Investigates new research processes and technology solutions in collaboration with research/clinical staff, students, and clients
20% Responsible for conducting clinical PET/CT procedures along with x-ray, fluoro, cross-sectional and nuclear medicine studies while maintaining compliance with radiation safety regulations.
Tasks:
Maintains and operates cameras that detect and map radioactive drugs in a patient's body to create diagnostic images
Positions patients and selects anatomic and technical factors accurately
Orders, prepares, administers, and disposes of radiopharmaceuticals according to established protocols
Follows radiation safety procedures and guidelines for all modalities to maintain staff and patient safety
Ensures equipment is properly functioning. Reports potential problems or equipment malfunction to supervisor
Assists with radiography training in regard to equipment usage and patient positioning for students, residents, technologists, radiologists, and other staff as needed
Ensures charges are correctly entered into the electronic medical record system
Ensures high standard of excellence in images is maintained by evaluating each image for technical quality and repeat images that do not meet that standard
Ensures imaging procedures are performed in a timely and efficient manner
Assists in developing and revising technical operating procedures and protocols
Participate in rotating on-call shifts for the teaching hospital as needed
Responsible for participating in other duties as needed or assigned
Help in other modalities as needed

Education:

Required
Associate's Degree, as a minimum.

Qualifications:

Required
- Certified Nuclear Medicine Technologist NMCBT or ARRT(N)
- Graduate of a Nuclear Medicine Technology program
- At least one year experience of Nuclear Medicine and Positron Emission Tomography technology.

It is anticipated this position requires work be performed in-person, onsite, at a designated campus work location.

Salary:

Minimum $60,000 ANNUAL (12 months)
Depending on Qualifications
Sign-on Bonus of 3% of base pay (based on FTE) to be paid over the first year of employment!

Requires the ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
