Neptune Medical Robotics, a division of Neptune Medical, is an innovative, venture capital funded medical device startup headquartered in Burlingame, CA. We have already commercialized novel medical devices using our technology. Now the team at Neptune is building something truly unique: a fully flexible medical robot that enables doctors to reach deep into human anatomy. Our robot will disrupt flexible endoscopy and set a new standard in outcomes for decades to come.

TITLE: Hardware Engineering Co-op, Robotics

DURATION: 6-8 months

START DATE: Winter 2025

POSITION SUMMARY: We are seeking a current mechanical, electromechanical, robotics, or equivalent undergraduate or graduate student to join us for a 6-8 month Co-op experience. In this role, you will gain valuable hands-on experience developing mechanisms and structures for novel medical robotic and manufacturing applications all while learning from a world-class team of engineers. The ideal candidate is motivated, determined, and proactive, and acts with passion and intensity in a fast-paced and collaborative environment.

ESSENTIAL CANDIDATE RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Design, build and test prototypes to solve difficult robotic, clinical, and manufacturing problems.
2. Develop unique solutions to enable manufacturing automation of assembly processes to impact capabilities and outcomes.
3. Understand the design process from requirements definition through testing, working with cross-functional partners along the way.
4. Develop novel designs and test fixtures using CAD programs such as Solidworks.
5. Develop test methods and protocols to test solutions and evaluate performance using engineering rigor and adequate sample size to draw strong conclusions.
6. Present findings and solutions to cross-functional teams, solicit feedback, and iterate.
7. Work well both independently and as part of a fast-moving, collaborative team.

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE:

1. Undergraduate or Graduate student majoring in Mechanical Engineering or other electromechanical engineering field.
2. Significant hands-on experience through
   • Previous internship experience
   • Design competitions such as: FIRST, VEX, Design/Build/Fly, Human Powered Vehicle, Formula SAE, University robotics or car automation teams
3. Previous hands-on engineering experience with:
   • 3D printing (FDM, SLA)
   • Basic machine shop tools.
   • Solidworks or Onshape designing simple to complex mechanical structures and mechanisms
4. Basic understanding of brushless motors, different sensors, power transmission methods, etc.
5. A demonstrated desire to play an important role in a small, lean, medical device start-up.
6. Inventive and balanced with discipline and attention to detail.

Neptune Medical is located in Burlingame, CA, near the Millbrae Caltrain and BART station.

Our job titles may span more than one career level. This is a non-exempt, hourly role and the starting base salary is between $31/hour and $38/hour depending on experience. The actual base pay is dependent upon many factors, such as: education, training, transferable skills, work experience, business needs, and location. The base pay range is subject to change and may be modified in the future. This role will also be eligible for 401(K) with matching.
