Purpose of Job:

The General Manager, Distributor Operations manages a portfolio of Independent Distributors through a team of Business Consultants, driving Distributor adherence to system standards as well as growth in both volume and profitability through improved Distributor performance.

Job Components:

  • Manage a portfolio of Independent Distributors valued at ~$700MM to the system.
  • Develop and execute strategic plans in alignment with the organization’s objectives to achieve or exceed sales targets for the Business unit.
  • Plan and allocate resources to effectively staff and accomplish the work to meet departmental productivity and quality goals.
  • Develop long-term strategies (1-3 years) for Distributor performance management and is responsible for managing the network optimization pipeline within their portfolio.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert in corporate workstreams where Distributor Operations representation is necessary, including Senior Leadership meetings.
  • Manage strategic corporate workstreams that cross Finance, National Accounts, Supply Chain, and Customer Service.
  • Manage a portfolio of Distributors through their Business Consultants via the Quarterly Business Review process for performance management to build action plans.
  • Manage escalated partner issues or concerns with Business Consultants to seek resolution.
  • Prioritize projects that require Business Consultants resourcing ensuring the quality of Distributor support is not compromised.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business or relevant experience.
  • 5+ years of experience in B2B sales, wholesale distribution, or process improvement. Preferred candidate to have experience in all three disciplines.
  • Team player with demonstrated ability to collaborate and effectively network in a professional fast-paced organization.
  • Demonstrated expertise in wholesale distribution operating principles, practices, and procedures.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively performance manage direct reports and independent partners.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills including the ability to make presentations to a variety of audiences.
  • Excellent organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to produce results with previous assignments.
  • Proven managerial skills such as planning, directing, organizing, executing, and coordinating the completion of objectives to a successful conclusion.
  • Inspires trust by completing projects on time and within budget and proactively communicating progress, issues, and future actions.
  • Fosters innovative and insightful thinking to seize new business opportunities.
  • Possesses a high degree of integrity when dealing with confidential and sensitive information.

Scope Data:

  • Manage a team of Distributor Performance Managers.
  • Strong interface with Distributors, Distributor Performance Managers, Regional Sales Managers, and Senior Leadership within the Corporate Support Center.
  • Periodic interaction with Counsel as needed.
  • Frequent interaction with Vice Presidents and Officers as needed.
  • Manage the budgetary responsibilities and activities of the department.
  • Exemplify Interstate Batteries’ Purpose and Values.
  • Interact professionally with fellow Team Members and other IB departments.
  • Must be able to work in a “Team oriented” environment.

Work Environment:

  • Ability to sustain posture in a seated position for prolonged periods of time.
  • Regularly required to use hands to grasp or handle, talk and hear, stand and walk.
  • Specific vision abilities include close vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Ability to occasionally lift and/or move 20+ lbs.
  • May be exposed to battery warehouse conditions such as exposure to moving equipment mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, and toxic or caustic chemicals.
  • Prolonged use of personal computer & telephone.
  • Ability to operate a motor vehicle.
  • Willingness to travel 60%.
