Field Engineer

Must reside in the United States. The ideal candidate will live in Idaho Falls, ID or the surrounding area.

Roles, Responsibilities, and Expectations

  • Must have an entrepreneurial attitude and be willing to tackle different tasks as they arise.
  • Primary responsibility is on-site field engineering for a large industrial project located in Eastern Idaho for a project duration of up to 2 years.
  • Must be willing to work in daily collaboration with other JBW team members, contractors, vendors, inspectors and all project related staff.
  • Extensive on-site support up to 2 years.
  • Perform field verifications, identify and organize gathered field information.
  • Complete drawings, calculations, equipment selection, and analysis accurately while following JBW’s quality control methods.
  • Monitor installation work to verify it aligns with engineering drawings and specifications. Record daily site conditions, work progress, and contractor activities.
  • Assist in confirming materials, equipment, and installation methods meet project standards.
  • Communicate with the general contractor to clarify technical questions or field issues.
  • Relay critical updates to the project leadership team and JBW project manager.
  • Observe work areas for compliance with site safety protocols and OSHA regulations.
  • Report unsafe practices or conditions to site management.
  • Perform basic measurements or field checks (e.g., pipe runs, support placements).
  • Compare as-built conditions to design intent and keep record of field modifications for change orders or engineering adjustments.
  • Identify and log construction issues or deviations.
  • Support engineers with as-built drawing markups.
  • Ensure all activities comply with agency-specific and site-specific standards.
  • Maintain security or access protocols for restricted sites.
  • Represent JBW professionally on-site, maintaining a high standard of conduct, clear communication, proper PPE, and adherence to all site-specific protocols and client expectations. Serve as a reliable point of contact for the engineering team and demonstrate accountability in all field activities.

Minimum Requirements

  • BS Degree in Mechanical or Structural Engineering from an ABET accredited program
  • 4 years of relevant experience
  • Proficiency in Excel, AutoCAD, Revit, or other drawing software
  • PE license is not required, but it is preferred.

Desired Background and Skills:

Technical Proficiency:

  • Experience working in industrial settings such as refineries, mines, power plants, etc.
  • Experience with designing material handling systems.
  • Knowledge of industry standards and codes
  • Ability to perform engineering analysis.

Communication Skills:

  • Excellent leadership, writing, and verbal communication skills for effective collaboration with clients, project teams, and stakeholders.
  • Ability to prepare and deliver technical presentations, reports, and proposals to communicate complex technical concepts effectively.
  • Ability to manage multiple small projects simultaneously.
  • Ability to manage clients.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $80,000.00 - $140,000.00 per year
