Summary

Provide services, guidance and assistance to families of children enrolled in our program and to maximize the family well-being and the academic functioning of children. Empower families to be advocates for their child's education, as they are their child's first and most important teachers. Also collaborate and share with teachers and other agency staff to best meet the individual needs of the children and their families. Ensures compliance of the Family and Community Partnership content area of the Federal Head Start Performance Standards.

Duties

  • Interview clients individually, in families, or in groups, assessing their situations, capabilities, and problems to determine what services are required to meet their needs.
  • Maintain up-to-date child files and prepare reports.
  • Consult with parents, teachers, and other school personnel to determine causes of problems, such as truancy and misbehavior, and to implement solutions.
  • Develop goal plans and review them regularly with families and perform follow-ups assessing the quantity and quality of services provided.
  • Refer clients to community resources for services, such as food pantries, babies place diapers, legal aid with Judicare, housing assistance, medical treatment, or parenting aid/trainings, and provide concrete information, such as where to go and how to apply.
  • Assist families in scheduling medical, dental or even counselor appointments.
  • Serve on committees, assist in building community partnerships, and attend trainings as available

Requirements

  • Have a minimum of Associate Degree in human services or social work OR have or be willing to enroll in a Family Service Credential to be completed within 18 months of employment
  • Must be able to pass an FBI fingerprinting background check.
  • Must be able to coordinate work schedule to meet specific needs of families (some evening and/or weekend scheduling may be necessary).
  • Able to work flexible hours with some travel. Must hold a valid Wisconsin driver’s license, have access to a vehicle during working hours maintain vehicle insurance
  • Have or be willing to complete CPR/First Aid, Mandated Reporter Shaken Baby training.
  • Use our Strength-based family assessment, to gather information from clients about their backgrounds, needs, or progress.
  • Maintain child records.
  • Responsible for data input into our Child Plus data system and maintain confidentiality of all Head Start records.Document all contacts and services to families assigned.
  • Meet with families regularly to gather information about their backgrounds, needs, or progress.
  • Confer with families to discuss goal plans or progress.
  • Collect information about clients.
  • Help clients get needed services or resources.
  • Refer individuals to educational or work programs.
  • Refer clients to community or social service programs.
  • Advocate for individual or community needs.
  • Evaluate characteristics of individuals to determine needs or eligibility.
  • Participate in and attend evening meetings, resource fairs, family events, and training for parents;advocate for individual or community needs.
