Primary Responsibilities
The Clayton County JA Discovery Center is a 33,000 sq. ft. facility that serves 25,000+ local middle school students annually with authentic, relevant, and experiential financial capability programs that combine in-class curriculum with a capstone simulation. In addition, the JA Discovery Center serves as a hub of frequent business and community events in connection with the 200+ corporate partners that support JA throughout the state.
In this impactful leadership role, you will:
- Recruit, hire, train, and manage a team of 20–30 part-time staff who serve as daily coaches and role models for students participating in innovative educational simulations.
- Build meaningful relationships & recruit volunteers with local businesses, community organizations, and colleges across Clayton County and the South Atlanta metro area to identify and engage top-tier volunteers for other metro-Atlanta JA programs.
- Design and implement a seamless volunteer onboarding process that aligns with both Junior Achievement and Clayton County Public Schools’ screening protocols.
- Serve as one of the ambassadors for JA in the community, representing the organization at local businesses and events to expand our network and impact, working in collaboration with JA’s Development Department.
This position is based primarily at the JA Discovery Center in Morrow, Georgia, with occasional travel to offsite business meetings and events. Please note that this is a mixed matrix reporting structure with equal and direct reporting lines to both Volunteer Partnerships & Strategy as well as the Program Portfolio Team, Discovery Center Experience.
DCX Operations: Recruitment & Support of Part-Time Staff
- Build a High-Impact Team:
- Lead the recruitment and hiring of 20–30 exceptional part-time staff who will serve as daily coaches and mentors to students. Collaborate closely with the Assistant VP and Director of JA Discovery Center Experience to ensure full daily coverage and alignment with programmatic and operational goals.
- Deliver High-Quality Training:
- Partner with HR and the onsite JA Discovery Experience team to design and deliver engaging, mission-aligned training that sets clear expectations, reinforces JA values, and prepares staff to create a safe, inspiring environment for students.
- Lead for Growth & Success:
- Provide ongoing management, coaching, real-time feedback and performance management to foster a culture of excellence, collaboration, and positivity among part-time staff.
- Cultivate Talent Pipelines:
- Establish strong partnerships with local colleges and universities to create a robust internship pipeline, offering students meaningful work experience while supporting JA’s staffing needs.
- Optimize Sustainability:
- Design and refine hiring and management processes to ensure a scalable, sustainable part-time staffing model that supports long-term retention and growth.
- Champion Daily Excellence:
- Ensure the delivery of a consistent, high-quality, and high-energy student experience every day of the school year (approximately 175 operating days), setting the tone for learning, engagement, and impact.
Volunteer Recruitment and Relationship Building
- Streamline Volunteer Onboarding:
- Design and implement a turn-key volunteer process that ensures a smooth, welcoming experience while meeting all compliance and screening requirements from Clayton County Public Schools and JA of Georgia.
- Drive Volunteer Recruitment:
- Proactively identify and recruit enthusiastic volunteers from 20+ sponsor companies, local businesses, and community leaders to support daily operations inside the JA Discovery Center.
- Expand Community Partnerships:
- Build and nurture relationships with businesses, civic groups, and educational institutions across metro Atlanta to support volunteer needs for JA programs, including growing 3DE volunteer and partnership needs and the JA Discovery Center of Atlanta.
- Be a Community Leader:
- Represent JA at regional events in collaboration with the local Development team: business forums, and community gatherings in Clayton County and South Metro Atlanta to elevate our presence, strengthen partnerships, and inspire new supporters.
Constituent Experience
- Deliver a best-in-class experience for every student, volunteer, educator and guest that participates in the JA BizTown, JA Finance Park programs.
- Steward partner brands within the JA BizTown, JA Finance Park, JA Dream Accelerator, and other regional JA programs to provide a strong return on investment.
- Embody organizational culture and reflect guiding principles to build strong working relationships with peers.
Qualifications: Education & Experience
- 7+ years’ sales, recruitment and/or management experience preferred
- Bachelor’s degree or higher
- Ability to recruit, build and sustain relationships
- People management background of large teams (20 or more)
- Very proactive and self-directed
- Strong cross-functional team collaboration
- Communication, presentation skills
- Ability to create strategies to balance short-term requirements with long-range business plans
- Strong computer skills
- High level of customer service
- Works well in a fast-paced environment
