Job Description

Middlesex seeks a highly organized and collaborative Assistant Athletic Director to join our Athletics Department. This full-time administrative faculty position will begin in the 2025-2026 academic year.

The Assistant Athletic Director plays a vital role in ensuring the smooth execution of all athletic events and facility operations. From overseeing game-day logistics to onboarding seasonal coaching staff and managing third-party facility rentals, this position requires excellent communication skills, logistical planning experience, and a proactive, team-oriented mindset.

The ideal candidate will have prior experience in athletic operations, facility management, or event coordination; strong organizational and communication skills; comfort with managing multiple priorities; and the interpersonal skills to work effectively with students, colleagues, and outside vendors. This position includes a faculty role within the school, including advising, evening and weekend duty responsibilities, and opportunities for coaching or programmatic support in a sports season.

Principal Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate all aspects of game-day management to ensure events are well-supported (staffing, setup, breakdown, logistics).
  • Oversee the onboarding and training of seasonal coaching staff and serve as the primary contact with Human Resources.
  • Work in close collaboration with the Equipment Manager to manage team stores, equipment needs, and game-day logistics.
  • Coordinate team logistics, including team meals and off-campus facility use.
  • Manage third-party rentals of Middlesex athletic facilities, including contract negotiations and rental logistics.
  • Serve as a site director for athletic events on assigned days/seasons.
  • Support the maintenance and safety of athletic facilities in partnership with the Facilities and Grounds team.
  • Act as the Athletics representative on the School’s Events Planning Committee

Faculty Responsibilities

  • Serve as an advisor to a group of students.
  • Participate in evening and weekend duty rotations.
  • Attend all faculty meetings and contribute to campus life.
  • Engage in one season of coaching.

Middlesex School is committed to building a diverse and inclusive community. We value the contributions of candidates who can help us sustain and grow a vibrant school environment that reflects a broad range of identities and perspectives.

Because Middlesex School is a residential boarding school, this role may be housed on campus or be eligible for a $20,000 engagement stipend for those not housed on campus.
